ZION PUERTO Princesa-Palawan Habitat for Humanity, Inc. (ZPPPHFHI), an organization of Habitat for Humanity Philippines, is targeting to construct five housing units on Saturday for the poor and homeless residents in this city.

Palawan Board Member and ZPPPHFHI president Vicky de Guzman said the building of five housing units was originally scheduled last Nov. 24, but was postponed due to typhoon “Lando”.

De Guzman said the noble undertaking, dubbed as “Building on Faith with Families” (BOFF) will push through on January 19 at the Habitat Village, barangay Bahile.

She said the activity will be done together with the qualified homepartners and skilled volunteers.

Meanwhile, De Guzman disclosed that on Jan. 17, the ZPPPHFHI will launch “Friends of Habitat” to be graced by former Ms. Universe Margie Moran-Floriendo.

Moran-Floriendo, chairperson of Friends of Habitat Philippines, will give Palawenos a wider venue of inviting prospective partners/members to help carry the vision, mission and goals of Habitat for Humanity.

De Guzman stressed that although Habit for Humanity builds on faith everyday, a specific BOFF event has become a way for ZPPPHFHI to get churches excited and involved in the Habitat’s works.

BOFF highlights the importance and role of churches, pare-churches and like-minded groups.

”I encourage everyone from different Christian faith to build and pray together for the glory of God by helping families in need”, the provincial legislator said in her call.

To date, ZPPPHFHI has built 100 units at the 13.7-hectare Habitat Village for the beneficiaries who come from sitio Manabori and purok Tarunayan, both barangay Bahile who were displaced after their areas were declared marine and wildlife sanctuary by the city government.

Earlier, students and volunteers from Shanghai American School in China; Tokai University of Japan; Japan Exchange Teaching (JET) based in Ibaraki Ken, Japan; Build Asia 2004 Singapore; New Zealand, Rotary Clubs of Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and South Korea and National University in Seoul, South Korea helped in the construction of houses.
