THE COMMISSION on Elections (Comelec) has dismissed the charges of vote-buying and corruption of voters against Mayor Edward Hagedorn filed by complainant Irene Carandang on April 13, 2007 for “lack of evidence”.

In a resolution , the Comelec found no basis to substantiate the allegations filed by Irene, wife of former police officer Alfredo Carandang, against Hagedorn.

Ex-policeman Carandang is presently detained at the city jail facing murder case for reportedly killing city election officer Petronilo Amorin on April 3, 2007.

He was also then reportedly the bodyguard of retired police general Eduardo Matillano, a rival of Hagedorn in the mayoralty race during the May 2007 elections.

The case stemmed after Hagedorn raised P1 million in reward money from donations given by the businessmen here.

The mayor gave the bounty to the informants who identified Carandang in the killing of Amorin.

Irene has also filed multiple criminal charges against Hagedorn and “Task Force Amorin” members, citing illegal arrest and detention of his husband.

The criminal cases for violation of Section 3 (e), RA No. 3019, otherwise known as “Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, Illegal Arrest and Abitrary Detention are being heard at the Office of the Ombudsman.”
