PALAWAN’S BID for the longest seafood grill in the Guinness of Book of World Records is set on April 5, 2009 at 3:00 p.m.

According to Board member Cirpiano D.C. Barroma of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, who is at the same time the executive director of the Palawan Economic and Development Council (PEDCO), the new date was agreed upon in a meeting that was called on September 30.

Fresh and semi-processed seafood supplies will be grilled next year, according to Barroma. This also means dried fish – daing and lamayo – which are products commonly promoted by the city under the “One Town, One Product” (OTOP).

He said next year’s bid will be longer compared to the first attempt because it will be lengthened to 6 kilometers. The first bid of the PEDCO was only 3.5 kilometers, supposedly to beat Uruguay’s 1.5 kms. longest beef grill record. It was postponed due to bad weather condition.

Although not yet totally finalized, Barroma said the committee is considering three possible areas for the grill: the north road, from B.M. road to Tagburos; Abueg road (conferential road); and Baywalk. Six stations in different colors will also be set up to serve during the longest grill bid.

The color coding was considered because it was observed in the first attempt that there were people who found difficulty getting supplies for the grill. The stations will be like a service center for seafood that will be grilled, according to Barroma.
